About ODEC
Headquartered in Glen Allen, Va., Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) is a wholesale power supplier to 11 locally owned and controlled electric distribution cooperatives that provide reliable, affordable electricity to more than 280,000 homes and businesses in some of the fastest-growing areas in Virginia. ODEC member cooperatives provide power to about a third of the landmass of Virginia and 80 percent of the Delmarva Peninsula, with individual residences in rural areas and emerging suburbs accounting for more than 90 percent of ODEC’s customers.
Because electric cooperatives are not-for-profit, member-owned organizations, our customers are considered consumer-members. Our cooperatives return net gains to members in the form of capital credits and because every customer also is a shareholder, our cooperatives do not face dilemmas over whose interests to serve, unlike investor-owned utilities.
